The One About Dear Elizabeth And Radiation City

Suzie Racho and David Wiegand scout the Bay Area for things to do this coming weekend and turn up Puerto Rican flavor, a pair of poets, and much more!

Miguel Zenón

May 28 - June 2, 2013
SFJazz

Jazz is an old medium, but that's not stopping Miguel Zenón from bringing something new to it. Through his work with the Rhythm Collective, the 30-something Puerto Rican, who received a MacArthur Genius Award in 2008, brings the Caribbean flavor of his homeland to the Bay Area. Take a trip to the island with Zenón and friends May 28th through June 2nd. For tickets and more information, visit sfjazz.org.

Superman Turns 75

May 30, 2013
Cartoon Art Museum

If you've seen Superman and all his muscles at the movies recently, you'd think he wasn't a day over 30. Turns out he's turning 75 this year! And to celebrate the occasion, author Larry Tye is giving a talk and signing his new book, SUPERMAN: The High-Flying History of America's Most Enduring Hero at the Cartoon Art Museum. A larger Superman exhibit runs through September. For tickets and more information, visit cartoonart.org.

Radiation City

May 24 - 26, 2013
Various Bay Area locations

Radiation City is a quintet that features two couples and a multi-instrumentalist. Anyone who knows a thing about Fleetwood Mac can tell you how spectacular the results of this kind of make-up can be. Catch the passion first-hand when Radiation City plays tonight at Sophia's Thai Kitchen in Davis, Saturday as part of Hickey Fest in Leggett and Sunday at The Rickshaw Stop. For tickets and more information, visit radiationcity.net.

Dear Elizabeth

May 24 - July 7, 2013
Berkeley Rep

Playwrights Sarah Ruhl and Les Waters are brining the West Coast premiere of their new play, Dear Elizabeth to the Berkeley Rep. The production follows the beautiful friendship between superstar poets Elizbabeth Bishop and Robert Lowell, across continents and decades. For tickets and more information, visit berkeleyrep.org.

Mikal Cronin

May 25, 2013
Rickshaw Stop

Once a bass player for Ty Seagall, Mikal Cronin is now stepping out of the shadows and into his own spotlight with the release of his new record, MKII, which is inspired by post-college life, a breakup, and a move from LA to SF. He's just like us! For tickets and more information, visit rickshawstop.com.

Hosted by Cy Musiker and San Francisco Chronicle Executive Datebook Editor David Wiegand.
